Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the best way to track my cycling?
This challenge is all about keeping busy and active, so we trust you to clock up your miles however you see fit. JustGiving has a great tool to connect your fundraising page to your Strava account so you can share your rides publicly. Only rides you record after you’ve connected your accounts will be shared automatically on your page. If you choose to use this tool, you may like to use Strava’s Privacy Zones function to hide your start/finish location. If you’re struggling, get in touch and we can guide you through it.
How can I cycle?
There’s lots of ways to hit your target, whether it’s keeping up your normal exercise routine or trying something new - you can make up your miles over a day, a week, a weekend or over the whole month of August. Just keep pedalling.
All types of bikes and wheels are welcome - static, mountain, hybrid, road, electric - this challenge is for all riders. Be sure to keep your bike serviced and insured should you wish to.
Who can take part?
All abilities and all levels of cycling are welcome. Cycle or wheel the way you want over August. Please make sure you are aware of relevant cycling road safety information before you take on your challenge, and that you are an able enough cyclist to complete 100 miles over the month. You can access road safety tips from British Cycling online.
Can we take part as a team?
Yes - one team, one dream! All you need to do is select the team option when you sign up and it will guide you through how to create a team or join an existing one. Please make sure you’re following government guidelines around exercising together. Being in one team doesn't necessarily mean you have to cycle together, it can just mean you’re all working towards one joint goal.
How can I fundraise?
Once you’ve decided to Cycle the Month, there’s loads of great ways to fundraise. Sign up and we’ll help you set up a JustGiving page and send you tips to make your challenge a success. You can get started by checking out our Resources page.
How much does it cost?
It’s free to sign up and take part. We’d suggest raising a minimum of £200 in sponsorship to help fund lifesaving prostate cancer research - but no target is too high! The more you raise, the more strides we can take towards a better future for men.
I want to wear a Prostate Cancer UK top whilst I cycle, where can I get one?
Hit £300 in sponsorship and we’ll be in touch to send you one of our branded jerseys as a gift. You can also kit yourself out at our online shop.
How can I see what other people are doing?
We’ll be posting regular cycling inspiration to help give you that boost mid-way through your challenge, and so will your peers. Check out the story grid on our homepage where you can see what your fellow cyclists are up to and how they are racking up the miles. You’ll also be able to keep your eye on hitting your miles on the leaderboard. Join our Cycle the Month Facebook Group to keep up to date with fellow cyclists, exchange top tips and share your motivation. Don’t forget to post your #CycletheMonth snaps too.
